TOIL AND TROUBLE is the second book in the epic bestselling Jolie Wilkins Series.

Description

The Underworld in civil war.
The cause? A witch who can reanimate the dead.
A sexy as sin vampire determined to claim her.
An infuriatingly handsome warlock torn between duty and love.
Who says blonds have more fun?

After defending herself against fairy magic, Jolie Wilkins wakes to find her world turned upside down—the creatures of the Underworld on the precipice of war. The Underworld is polarized in a battle of witch against witch, creature against creature, led by the villainous Bella, who would be Queen.

While Jolie has one goal in mind, to stake the vampire, Ryder, who nearly killed her, she also must choose between the affections of her warlock employer, Rand, and the mysteriously sexy vampire, Sinjin.

And as if that weren’t enough to ruin a girl’s day, everything Jolie knows will be turned inside out when she’s thrust into the shock of a lifetime.

“I cannot remember the last time that I have fallen so in love with a series of books. I dread having to stop reading! I do not know what I will be doing with myself until the next one comes out. I also find myself very torn between Rand and Sinjin. I have never really faced this problem before it has usually always been so clear in the past in other books... I love Rand and Sinjin both so much! It is now 1247am and I am in work at 800am. Do I really have to go to sleep????” ― Reviewer ★★★★★

“I am new to the Paranormal romance genre. Now I can say I have read several Paranormal Romances within the last few months. This one has been my favorite. I read the first book in this series and I enjoyed it, but I REALLY enjoyed this one! I really liked the time travel aspect toward the end of the book, the relationship between both Jolie and Rand and Jolie and Sinjin, the descriptions of the fairy world, the Prophetess, etc. In particular, I love the character of Sinjin - I find him fascinating! I am really looking forward to the next book in the series!!” ― Reviewer ★★★★★

Toil And Trouble A Paranormal Romance Series Jolie Wilkins Book 2 eBook HP Mallory

Finally, after book 1 we are getting somewhere. Jolie is more confident, to a certain point, we have action, and the plot twists. I liked this book because it took me in a different direction than I had thought. I am a little irritated with Rand right now, I wont do any spoilers but then again, maybe I will.
I am tired of going back and forth between Rand and Jolie. Either get together or don't. I am also getting a little tired of Jolie's internal monologue. She argues with herself and it is so annoying. I think I would like this book better if Jolie was written differently. I am still going to order number 3 because there is a cliffhanger and I just had to know what was happening.
So I liked it well enough to continue in the series.

Toil And Trouble A Paranormal Romance Series Jolie Wilkins Book 2 eBook HP Mallory Reviews

I am new to the Paranormal romance genre. I normally tend toward literary fiction and certain nonfiction, so this was uncharted water for me. To be honest, I didn't even know that "PNR" even existed until I got a and found several books in this genre for low or no cost (thanks !). Now I can say I have read several PNRs within the last few months. This one has been my favorite. I read the first book in this series and I enjoyed it, but I REALLY enjoyed this one! The writing here is better than in book one and the characters are more developed. I also really liked the time travel aspect toward the end of the book, the relationship between both Jolie and Rand and Jolie and Sinjin, the descriptions of the fairy world, the Prophetess, etc. In particular, I love the character of Sinjin - I find him fascinating and I hope the next book explores his past in more detail (although that is one big drawback to first person narration - it makes it difficult to really understand anyone but the narrator). I know that in the end Jolie's heart belongs to Rand, but her dalliances with Sinjin are really fun to read. I do agree with one reviewer who found the war anticlimactic and disapppointing. The war was a big nothing after it had been talked about and planned for ad nauseum throughout the first 2/3 of the book. I didn't really want a lot of long, drawn out battle scenes, but a bit more detail would have been welcome. But in the end this series is really about Jolie herself as well as Jolie and Rand, and to a lesser degree Jolie and Sinjin. That is really where the story should focus itself and it does that. I enjoyed this book, and PNRs in general, much more than I ever thought I would and I am really looking forward to the next book in the series, coming out at the end of February!
I can not remember the last time that I have fallen so in love with a series of books. I dread having to stop reading, I get excited when am able to go back to reading and I am already dreading catching up to the latest book as I do not know what I will be doing with myself until the next one comes out. It does make me happy that I did not discover this series right away so that I can read 3.5 books in one go because the wait between them would have been terrible.

I also find myself very torn between Rand and Sinjin. I have never really faced this problem before it has usually always been so clear in the past in other books. Team Edward, check. Team Peeta, check. I can not for the life of me stand Jacob or Gale. However in this book... I love Rand and Sinjin both so much!

Honestly, I can't pick. I have no idea how Jolie is going to come to her final decision. I have an inkling who it will be. I guess my true feelings will be found out when that decision is made as I am sure I will feel saddened with either choice.

It is now 1247am and I am in work at 800am so unfortunately I can not start Be Witched right away but as soon as I am off work tomorrow I will begin. It is only a Novella but I am so excited to see the story of Toil and Trouble through the eyes of Rand.

Do I really have to go to sleep????
The second book in the Jolie Wilkins series picks up after the first one left off. Rand's group has won the Fae over to their side in a huge war against Bella's side. Each side writes up a contract listing the stakes and the two sides go into battle. Before that however is the first 60% of the book which was annoying to me. The first 60% of the book focuses on Rand's team preparing for the war. Rand tells Jolie that she under no circumstances will be allowed to fight in the war. He wants to ship Jolie and her best friend Christa off to another country. Why? Of course he is worried about her safety. But the strongest reason (in my opinion) is that they want Jolie to use her special witch powers to bring back to life those they lose during the course of the war. Wow, what a noble thing Jolie could do! They promise their 'soldiers' several times that Jolie will do this for them. But Jolie has other (more selfish) plans. She wants to kill Ryder, the vampire who attacked her in the first book. Rand and the vampire Sinjin promise that they will kill Ryder in her name.

I couldn't stand Jolie when she was preparing to go behind everyone's (except Sinjin's)back on this. She prepares by feeding on and flirting with Sinjin so she can get his strength and power. She lies to Rand. She bewitches her very best (at the start of the first book) friend Christa. She sends Christa off by herself to another country believing that they had planned all this in the first place. Plus all the wishy washy drama continues. She loves Rand, but he doesn't love her. Oh but she may be falling for Sinjin too. And Odran is a jerk but he sure looks hot in those jeans. Good grief! I have an ARC of book 3 to review so I was trying hard not to give up on this book but for awhile I considered it. The lack of action and overdose of inner drama was just too much.

But then the story thankfully changes focus. Jolie is thrust back in time. I can not tell you how much I enjoyed this. Even though she meets up with many of the characters from present day (they are nearly immortal many of them) the way they all act is refreshing. I even liked Jolie much better here though when she is determined not to heal someone she should heal it felt very out of character and her reasoning did not come across as realistic. I very much enjoyed the conclusion and found it strong. I was shocked that this book almost felt like two completed different books mixed together. Still the plot at the end has made me fairly eager for the next book. Three stars still may be slightly generous but I did end the book happy.
Finally, after book 1 we are getting somewhere. Jolie is more confident, to a certain point, we have action, and the plot twists. I liked this book because it took me in a different direction than I had thought. I am a little irritated with Rand right now, I wont do any spoilers but then again, maybe I will.
